About The Brawl

An annual Summer Comedy Party, featuring Toronto’s finest amateur comedians battling for cash and glory!

In celebration of our 4th year, we’ll be giving away over $3000 over the course of The Brawl, with $1000 being awarded on the final night.

We’ve also added some exciting prize packs for the audience this year. Movie passes, show tickets, and swag galore!

In 2011 the preliminary shows happened Monday – Wednesday at The Crown & Tiger, with the 4 Semi Finals going down at The Rivoli, and during finals at Absolute Comedy on Tuesday October 4th, K Trevor Wilson walked out with $1000 in cold hard cash.

All the details on Judging, Prizes, and History can be found below:

How did it all start?

The Toronto Comedy Brawl began in the summer of 2009 as a small summer comedy contest for local amateur comedians. The goal being to bolster attendance at the weekly shows at The Crown & Tiger and The Groundhog Pub during the notorious summer comedy lull.

Starting out with 64 comedians, the field quickly narrowed to the elite 8 who competed for cash and the glory (?) of being named the first ever winner Toronto Comedy Brawl champion.

The final eight in 2009 were: Will O’Neill, Laura Salvas, Joel Buxton, Marilla Wex, Pat MacDonald, K Trevor Wilson, Dave Merheje, and Ian Lynch (Champ)

Based on the success of the first year, efforts were made in 2010 to expand the field to include all amateur comics who wished to participate. 2010 featured 174 comedians battling for the crown of 2010 Comedy Brawl Champion.

The 2010 finalists were: Rob Mailloux, Geoff Hendry, Joel Buxton (2nd year in a row), Daniel Woodrow, Andrew Ivimey, Julie Kim, DJ Demers, and K. Trevor Wilson (Champ).

Now we’re back for Year #3.

In 2011 The Toronto Comedy Brawl features over 200 Brawlers, and among them are more than 60 women (both are new records for The Brawl). Over the course of 45 shows, we’ll narrow it down to who is the best of the bunch.
